One one hand, some can make it into the whole stop-being-something-you-aren’t issue (negative.) On the other, it’s just a piece of plastic on a car, that the owner decided to put on because they like it (neutral.) I lean more torward the latter.
I would just think “Ehhh-doesn’t look like a Hellcat” then move on with my day.

when i was a kid, lacoste shirts were a big deal, but we couldnt afford them, so my mom bought a pair of lacoste socks, removed the alligator and sewed it on a sears shirt for me.

Stock badges or de-badging are the only acceptable choices.

Does not bother me but when I see things like this my internal monologue goes something like this. “Sweet hellcat....”
Although that’s no different from me seeing an actual hellcat:)

I’m about to take the SS badge off my car for two reasons:
Dumb placement.
My b-ball shorts got snagged on it.
EDIT: just saw you said upbadging. Yeah, don't do that.

I’m ok with it but you have to go the whole way with the look instead of just slapping badges on a car. I use my 14 Camaro SS as an example, I’ve given it the Yenko treatment. Badges, stripes, wheels, Spoiler, Splitter (still need to install). I have a few more things to do to complete the total look but it's a lot more than a couple badges and slapping them on.

Actually after a little thought I do recall a sort of up-badging that might not be frowned on... I know I'd do it. In Germany pretty much anyone with a Red Fiat covers it in Ferrari badges. I saw one such Red Fiat, with the obligatory Ferrari badges... but it had a bumper sticker that said when I grow up I want to be a Ferrari. Granted it is a bit more then the typical up-badging, no one is mistaking a Red Fiat for a Ferrari, but some might mistake a basic Challenger for a Hellcat. Still I could see say a Dart with a Hellcat badge and a sticker that says when I grow up I want to be a Hellcat.

I still remember how Oppo ganged up on some poor sod who had an AMG badge on his regular W202 when he tried to defend upbadging. :P

Someone’s allowed to do what they want to their own car if it makes them happy. However, I don’t really see the point. Upbadging is just turning a decent, respectable car into what is basically a questionable “replica”, sorta.

I’ve been thinking about doing something like this on my Mustang. I found myself buying a “SVT” badge a while back to meet a minimum order for free shipping, but I haven’t decided what to do with it. I can’t justify putting it on the car, at least not yet.
The car is a 1995 GT model, but I’ve been slowly upgrading things over the years. Suspension, chassis, brakes... some of the car is now Cobra-spec, but not enough to qualify it for the snake badge. There’s no such thing as a “Mustang GT SVT”, but if there was, I imagine it would slot between the GT and Cobra models.
So maybe I will put it on at some point after adding a few more performance upgrades. Or maybe I’ll just stick it on one of my toolboxes instead.

Gotta do it all to complete the look. Including the “supercharged” badge on the hood for the stock motor.

It’s pretending that you have something you don’t, and really that’s a little pathetic. Why not be happy with what you have instead of being ashamed of it? Because if you’re doing something like that what you’re really saying is “I wish I had that instead of this”.

Hell naw. I might be okay with the SVT thing, but I refuse to go full poser with it. The SVT badge would just be a little hint that the car is no longer stock, and I think that would be appropriate.
To be honest, I’m the kind of guy who’s actually more likely to downbadge than I am to upbadge. “Hey, that’s pretty fast for a V6; what gives?”

I wouldn’t do it. I’ve been working on a plan to rebadge my lancer ralliart (once it’s fully upgraded) to ConvolutionZ (as opposed to EvolutionX). I have the lettering done, I just need to get it made.
Even if I could spank a stock evox, why upbadge?

Owner of this car was having a Wilwood big brake kit installed because he said, and I quote “painting calipers is ricey” but putting on badges like that isn’t? Huh...
He also had some fat all-seasons on there. Sure he's taking full advantage of that big brake kit.

up-badging doesnt matter so much, as long as the person doesnt try to claim it as the real deal, or represent it as such when selling it.......... nothing wrong with some mild trolling, but going full on poser, not so much.......

The problem as I see it is that a lot of the people who upbadge their cars aren't doing it because they like it, but because they're trying to convince people who might not know the difference that they actually have that higher model. Which is varying degrees of silly>sad>bad depending on who they're trying to con and why.

Big brakes might be enough to justify those SVT center caps, but the “supercharged” badges? Eh, not so much.

If you’ve got SVT parts, I'd see no issue putting an SVT tag on it. If you put Cobra tags on it that's different, but SVT is as much a parts maker as anything.

Some of the upgraded parts are actual Cobra parts, but not all of them. Some are merely Cobra-spec or at least a rough equivalent. There’s some Steeda under there, some Ford Racing, some Eibach, etc.

Drove home behind an AMG Corolla today. Yeah, you read that right.
I would’ve found it funny except he was driving (trying to drive) like he believed it.
